Homeschooling Homesteaders: Teaching Self-Reliance Skills

Janice Campbell

Hi, I'm Janice Campbell, and I'm glad you're here! My mission is to help other homeschooling moms focus on the things that matter- family, literacy, creativity, growth, and service (and for me, each of those is grounded in the love of the Lord)- rather than being entangled by the mundane. I want to share a vision of the delightful adventure your family can enjoy while homeschooling through high school, and to give you a peek at the opportunities you can explore- entrepreneurship, travel, early college, talent development, and more. I'll also share favorite poems and reviews of good resources, as well as a dollop of opinion on mostly education-related topics. Subscribe to my RSS feed, and join the adventure!

  1. Janice,
Sounds like a very interesting Expo. I agree a lot of homeschoolers are also very self reliant people.

I hope you inspire a lot of people!

  2. Great post! We are diving into these practices, too. It has been very rewarding to learn skills like making our own yogurt and cooking with locally grown/raised foods. I’ve learned to take it one skill at a time, and I’m really enjoying each step in the process of learning to do things sustainably.

  3. I love the idea of learning to become more self-reliant in a sensible, sustainable way. It makes so much sense to ease into it one thing at a time rather than suddenly trying to do it all. That’s what has worked for us, too, which means that we do some things well and other things not at all;-). But definitely–fresh yogurt every week. Yum!
